Exigences linguistiques

The minimum number of years required to waive requirements is four years of satisfactory full-time study in an English-language school system in a country where English is the dominant language. If an English facility test is required, you will be exempt from also having to include a 4U English (ENG4U/EAE4U) in your admission average, provided that six other acceptable 4U credits are presented.

If your score is in the discretionary test score ranges listed below, but you are otherwise well qualified for admission, the university will automatically consider other academic evidence of English proficiency (for example, results in English courses) and will advise you as to whether or not the English facility requirements were satisfied. Letters of reference will not be used for this purpose.

If French is your first language and you achieved satisfactory academic progress in at least four years of full-time study in Canada, you are not required to provide proof of English facility.

Full English facility requirements, as well as many other acceptable tests/qualifications, are available at: uoft.me/engreq/.

U of T Mississauga offers the Academic Culture and English (ACE) program to students who have been admitted to the University of Toronto Mississauga but who require additional English language skills training. Completing the extra-cost ACE@UTM may be a condition of an offer of admission. The program is led by instructors from the renowned University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies. ACE@UTM is specifically designed to target the development of communication, research and study skills. The skills acquired will lead you toward greater success in your studies. Summer and fall-winter sessions are offered (subject to change).

The University of Toronto Mississauga is also an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) testing centre www.utm.utoronto.ca/ielts/.

Admission

Offres d'admission pour les élèves du secondaire de l'Ontario

Basic Requirements for Admission

All program areas require:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • Six 4U/M subjects or equivalent, including English

Some prerequisite courses must have a minimum of 70%. The admission average is calculated with English, plus the next best five courses.

Failed and Repeated Courses

While recognizing that there may be valid reasons to repeat a course, multiple repeats are discouraged. We reserve the right to use the first attempt at a course when calculating the admission average and may give preference to students who have not repeated courses. Appeals for special circumstances will be considered.

Timing and Process for Admission Decisions

Conditional offers of admission are based on interim or final 4U/M courses, and are made in March, April and May. The marks obtained in relevant 3U/M courses may be considered for the March round of offers. Outstanding students may be considered for early conditional offers (February) based on their Grade 11 grades and proof of registration in Grade 12 requirements.

All offers of admission are conditional upon final results and completing the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
